Secure Mode Announcement

January 7, 2022

Dear Parents and Staff of Holly Area Schools,

The safety of our students, families and staff is our number one priority.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. this afternoon, district leaders were informed of a shooting incident on I-75.  The suspect exited the freeway heading west on E. Holly Road.  We were in communication with Holly Police at that time and immediately placed all school buildings in Secure Mode.

Holly Police were also on site at school buildings to clear all parking lots and grounds.  Police believe that the suspect has fled the Holly area.

At no time was there a threat to Holly Area Schools.  Other than the location of the incident, there is no apparent connection to the community of Holly.  However, out of an abundance of caution, we moved our buildings into Secure Mode to limit hallway traffic, prohibit visitors, and heighten overall security awareness.

We will continue to maintain communication with our local law enforcement with a police presence through the end of the school day.  Our Secure Mode has been lifted effective 1:30 pm this afternoon.

We appreciate your support and will continue to keep our families updated regarding situations impacting our schools.

Sincerely,

Scott Roper, Superintendent
Holly Area Schools
