Response to Tragic Events at Robb Elementary in Texas

May 25, 2022

Dear Holly Area Schools Families,

Our hearts grieve for the families suffering after Tuesday’s senseless tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. This is unfortunately another incident of school v

At Holly Area Schools, we have a strong relationship with law enforcement as part of our commitment to providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for all Bronchos. Since yesterday’s tragedy, I have been in communication with local police to reinforce our safety protocols and procedures. As part of this effort, we will be increasing police presence on school grounds during school hours through the end of the school year. The enhanced police presence will provide an additional layer of security within our school community. We will also have counselors available to students and staff who may need some extra support.

I’d also like to reinforce our call for our students to report threats of any kind or potential acts of violence. Students can report any such threats to teachers or staff members, call 911 or anonymously report an incident to the OK2SAY tip line at (855) 565-2729, text to 652729 or email ok2say@mi.gov.

We ask our parents to talk about Tuesday’s tragedy with their children. The National Association of School Psychologists has provided tips for parents to discuss violence with their children, which can be found at the following link:  Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers

In the days ahead, please keep the families of Robb Elementary victims in your hearts and continue to support one another as one Broncho community.

We are #BronchosUnited.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Roper, Superintendent
Holly Area Schools
