Safety and Security Statement

Dear Parents and Staff of Holly Area Schools,

The safety of our students, staff and families is our top priority. This afternoon, one of our district’s School Resource Police Officers received a report of a threatening statement made during a private social media chat with one of our high school students. The statement did not name Holly High School or any buildings in our district.

We are excited to offer a number of virtual learning options for HAS  students.

2nd-8th Pathway offers the flexibility of online learning at home with the support of a certified HAS teacher/mentor. Students will be enrolled in 6 classes per trimester and will need the support of an adult at home. Optional in-person lab sessions with the teacher will be available several times per week.

9th-12th Pathway offers the flexibility of online learning with the support of certified HAS teachers. Students will be enrolled in 5 classes per trimester and will engage in weekly conversations with a mentor about progress and grades in their courses. Optional in-person lab sessions with BVS teachers will be available several times per week.

EXCEL Alternative Pathway is designed to help 11th and 12th-grade students who have not been successful in the traditional classroom obtain the core credits necessary to earn a high school diploma. This pathway combines online learning with weekly in-person learning sessions. A minimum of one (1-2 hour) in-person learning session per week is a requirement of this pathway.

Please click on the links below to learn more about each virtual option to see if one is right for you.

Ask yourself these questions to see if BVS is a good fit for you:

  • Can your student maintain a schedule without face-to-face interaction with a teacher?
  • Is your student comfortable asking for help from a teacher using email, text messaging, or through an online meeting?
  • Can your student complete assignments without direct supervision?
  • Does your student have a love of learning and a desire to accomplish goals?
  • Does your student have basic reading, math, and computer skills to succeed in independent online learning?
  • Does your student feel comfortable using new technology?

Ask yourself these questions to see if EXCEL Alternative Pathway may be a good fit:

  • Is the student off-track for graduating on time?
  • Does the student need to recover more than 4 credits?
  • Is the student performing poorly in the traditional high school setting?
  • Does the student struggle keeping up with 5 or more classes at a time?
