Bus Stop Safety Update

Dear Holly Area Schools Families,

The safety and well-being of our students, staff and families is our top priority.

It has come to our attention this morning, Thursday, February 2nd, shortly after 8 am, a Davisburg Elementary student reported a suspicious individual on Detroiter Ave. in the Springrove mobile park in Davisburg.

The individual was identified as an older white male with grey/white hair driving a black Chevy truck.  It was reported that the vehicle was slowly following the student, who was on the way to the bus stop.  When the student stopped walking, the man reportedly stepped out of his vehicle.  As a result, the student ran back home.  The student did a great job of maintaining distance, fleeing the area, and reporting the concern.

The parent and the school district have contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department regarding this incident.  In addition, we also reported this information to the Holly Police Department.  If you have any information regarding this morning’s incident, immediately call 911.

We are contacting our families out of an abundance of caution to protect the safety and welfare of our students. This situation is also a reminder for students and families to report any suspicious activity of any kind on school grounds or at our bus stops to police, their building principal or district administration.

We also ask that our parents please remind their children of the following safety tips:

    •    Try to avoid walking to and from school and the bus stop alone

    •    If your child sees anything suspicious, call 911

    •    Never talk to or take anything from strangers

    •    Keep enough distance from strangers so they are unable to touch

Working together, we will continue to make Holly Area Schools a safe place for our Bronchos to learn, grow and thrive.

Sincerely,

Scott Roper, Superintendent
Holly Area Schools
