McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

Holly Area Schools, in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, will ensure that homeless children and youth in transition have access to a free and appropriate public education, including preschool, and be given a full opportunity to participate in state and district-wide assessments and accountability systems.

A student may be considered eligible for services if they are:

  • Staying with friends or family temporarily
  • Living in a motel or hotel
  • Staying in a shelter or transitional housing
  • Living in a car
  • Staying in a park or public place
  • Living in an abandoned building
  • Staying at a bus or train station
  • Living in unsafe or substandard housing
  • Staying at a campground
  • Staying in a hospital

The Board of Education has designated Sydney Sinclair as the School District’s Coordinator under the Homeless Assistance Act.
