Winter Weather Announcement 25-26

winter weather ahead sign

November 20, 2025

Dear Holly Area Schools Families,

Even though winter doesn’t officially begin for another month, we all know Michigan doesn’t wait for a date on the calendar. Snow, ice, and chilly winds can show up quickly—and sometimes all at once!

As we gear up for the colder months, this is our annual reminder about how we handle school cancellations due to inclement weather—better known to students as the legendary “Snow Days.” While snow days can certainly bring some excitement, our top priority will always be keeping our students, families, and staff safe. With 124 square miles of roads—paved, gravel, hilly, and everything in between—conditions can vary widely across our district. One area may be perfectly clear while another is icy or snow-covered.

Decisions about closing school involve much more than simply checking the forecast. We look closely at real-time road and weather conditions, expected timing of snowfall or freezing temperatures, and input from the road commission as well as our transportation and operations department leaders. Predictions alone can be tricky, so we make the most responsible decision with the most accurate information available.

We know that every family has unique circumstances, and we respect parents and guardians making decisions that are best for their children. Our goal is to announce weather-related closings by 5:45 a.m., though occasionally conditions require a decision the night before.

If a closure is necessary, you’ll receive a phone call and/or SMS text through SchoolMessenger, and the announcement will also appear on the district website. We share updates with these media outlets as well:

  • ABC 12
  • NBC 25
  • Fox 66
  • CW 46
  • Fox 2
  • Local 4
  • ABC 7
  • WWJ AM 950 and WJR AM 760

Thank you for your continued support. We will continue to put safety first for our more than 3,100 students and the dedicated staff who make up our Broncho family.

As we head into the holiday season, I hope everyone enjoys a warm, restful, and joy-filled Thanksgiving break.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Roper, Superintendent
