Support After Tragic Incident in Grand Blanc

We are here to support our students, famiiies and staff

We continue to be deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless act of violence that occurred this morning at a church in Grand Blanc. Our hearts go out to all of the victims and their families, and we know that this news has deeply affected many across our region—including members of our own school community.

This evening, our district’s crisis response team met to prepare for tomorrow and ensure we are ready to support our students and staff in the most compassionate and responsive way possible. We have also consulted with the Oakland Schools Crisis Support Team, and we will have additional mental health support staff available across the district in the days ahead.

If your child has been personally impacted by this event, or is struggling with their feelings, please know that support will be available at school in the coming days.  Students may visit a counselor or social worker at any time, or simply let a trusted adult or teacher know they would like to talk with someone. Our staff is here and ready to help.

We also strongly encourage parents to contact us directly if they believe their child may need additional support. You can email or call your school principal to let us know, and we will ensure your child is checked on and supported.  Please visit our district website at https://www.hask12.org/ go to your school for more information on contacting your building principal.

As a precaution, and in continued coordination with our law enforcement partners, you may also notice an increased security presence at our schools in the coming days.

Now, more than ever, we ask that our Broncho community come together in support of one another and remain united in our commitment to keeping all students and staff safe.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and care.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Roper
