All six Holly Area Schools buildings receive MI HEARTSafe awards
Recognition, recent staff CPR, first-aid training part of district’s commitment to health, safety, well-being of all Bronchos
HOLLY, Mich. — Holly Area Schools teachers, support staff and other school employees in all six district school buildings recently received 2026 MI HEARTSafe School Awards by the state of Michigan. Along with the recognition, district administrators and staff recently participated in CPR and first-aid training and certification.
The combined efforts are part of the district’s continued commitment to the health, safety and well-being of all Bronchos — a point of pride for the district and its continued dedication to student success.
To receive MI HEARTSafe certification, building staff and administration in all district buildings had to meet several criteria. Requirements included a cardiac emergency response plan for school days, sports and other after school activities, a cardiac emergency response team with CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and performing at least one emergency cardiac event drill per year.
The MI HEARTSafe School Award is given every three years. The district will reapply to maintain the status in the six buildings for the 2028-2029 school year. This fall, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will organize an award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the district’s achievement. Each building will also be provided with MI HEARTSafe banners.
This summer, all Holly schools district and building administrators and office staff participated in CPR and first-aid training and certification led by district nurse Jessica Morantes. The training was part of the district’s next steps in helping ensure all building staff are prepared to fully support Broncho students, staff and families in the case of an emergency.
“At Holly Area Schools, the health and safety of our students, staff and families is our number one priority,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “All of our Broncho teachers, support staff and other employees put that commitment into action by earning MI HEARTSafe awards. I’d also like to thank Nurse Morantes for demonstrating leadership on these projects as we begin to look ahead to another amazing school year.”
