HAS Early Childhood Mask Requirement Update

Impact of latest state order requiring all children age 2 and older to wear a face mask.

April 22, 2021

Dear Holly Early Childhood families,

We prioritize the health and safety of your child and family and our staff above all else. You may have questions about the latest state order requiring all children age 2 and older to wear a face mask at any gathering, including while at child care. I’d like to take a moment to explain how this will impact your child and family.

Effective Monday, April 26, the new state Department of Health and Human Services mask order requires child care centers to make a “good faith effort” to enforce the rule for children ages 2-4. The mask requirement was expanded to help prevent spread of COVID-19 as infection numbers and hospitalizations continue to spike, including among young children.

We are committed to following the new order and all state health and safety guidelines to continue providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for your child. I also want you to know your child will not be sent home for not tolerating a mask. We will encourage our little ones to wear their mask while in class and will be using a “good faith effort” practice when interacting with them.

We understand this is only the latest in a long and evolving list of pandemic safety requirements for you and your family. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to face the many challenges posed by this virus.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns at 248-328-3027.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Thompson
Early Childhood Coordinator
