Broncho Marching Band racks up wins, accolades in successful 2023 season

Broncho Marching Band racks up wins, accolades in successful 2023 season  

Band’s stellar season demonstrates district’s commitment to fine arts as part of a well-rounded education


HOLLY, Mich. — The Holly High School Broncho Marching Band has a lot to toot its collective horn about, wrapping its 2023 season with a long list of accolades and accomplishments on the competition field.

The band closed its 2023 season with a lengthy roster of awards, including finishing in the top two-ranking marching bands in all four season competitions. The band also won numerous caption awards in the categories of music and percussion at each competitive event. Caption awards are given to bands that present an outstanding performance.

“I am so proud of the hard work each band member dedicated to making this season a stellar success and one for the record books,” said Ben Baldwin, Holly High School band director. “Our season was the culmination of countless hours of practice and preparation by our students, and their efforts have paid off tremendously.”

This season’s wins include:

  • Trenton Marching Band Invitational (Sept. 23)
    • 2nd place overall
    • Caption award for music
    • Caption award for percussion
    • Award of Excellence in music and percussion
  • Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Marching Band Festival (Oct. 10)
    • School’s 10th consecutive year of earning straight 1s for superior performance in music, marching and general effect
  •  Chippewa Valley Marching Band Invitational (Oct. 14)
    • 1st place in Class B
    • Caption award for music
    • Caption award for percussion
    • Award of Excellence in music
  • Brandon Marching Band Invitational (Oct. 21)
    • 2nd place in Class B
    • Caption award for music
    • Caption award for percussion
    • Award of Excellence in marching, music, percussion and color guard

“I’d like to personally congratulate every member of our Broncho Marching Band for their outstanding accomplishments this season,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “The band’s standout season will help us continue attracting younger students to the program next year and beyond. It also demonstrates our commitment to making the fine arts part of a well-rounded education that prepares our students for the real world and careers.”
