HOLLY, Mich. — Last week’s unveiling of the new Holly Middle School drew nearly 400 community members who got a firsthand glimpse of the state-of-the-art building that opened this school year. Open house attendees toured the modern facility, including STEM labs, secure workspaces and enhanced areas for arts and athletics.
The building reflects the community’s continued investment in the success of all Bronchos and was made possible by the voter-approved 2022 Bond.
The vision for a new middle school began just over five years ago in Phase 2 of our long-term master planning process. Planning for the new school included valuable input from district students, families, staff and Broncho community members, Superintendent Scott Roper said in his remarks on Sept. 25. The Holly Middle School building, located on the district’s Karl Richter Campus, was completed just in time for the first day of school on Aug. 25. The world-class facility will allow Bronchos to benefit from safe, flexible and innovative spaces that help prepare them for success and careers.
“This building is more than steel and concrete. This site, here on the Karl Richter Campus, is a symbol of our district’s direction and purpose — empowering all Broncho students to take charge of their learning through meaningful, engaging and relevant experiences that prepare them with real-life skills for success,” Roper said. “This new middle school is a source of pride for our entire community. It reflects our shared commitment to growth, innovation and excellence — and it belongs to all of us.”
Roper thanked the Holly Area Schools Board of Education for its vision, leadership and unwavering support throughout the project. He also thanked Holly Middle School Principal Monica Turner and Assistant Principal Haley Street for their leadership, organization and tireless work to help ensure a smooth transition into the new building. Roper also thanked district leaders who shepherded the project, including Director of Operations Jeremy Mason and Director of Facilities Jessica Kimmel, as well as the district’s leadership team, administrators and staff.
Eric Curl, the district’s director of staff and student relations, praised Superintendent Roper’s work and vision in leading the construction project through to completion.
“Mr. Roper, on behalf of all of us, thank you for your vision, your persistence and your hands-on leadership,” Curl said. “Because of your efforts, what started as a community dream has become the reality we’re standing in today, this amazing new school that will serve Holly students for years to come.”
The new school also features the latest school safety technology and security systems, secure entryways, and safe learning environments. Technology is deployed throughout the building that will enable student collaboration, state-of-the-art education and hands-on learning. Holly Middle School is also equipped to host community events, which will further strengthen the bond between the school district and families.
The building’s construction involved over 43 subcontractors and over 200 skilled tradespeople who worked more than 200,000 hours to complete the building that contains over 190,000 individual blocks, 84,000 bricks and 250 tons of steel.
