Broncho EXCEL

Broncho EXCEL explores possibilities and empowers futures on the road to a non-traditional, Michigan certified, high school diploma pathway.  EXCEL students earn their high school diploma following the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements only, not the Holly High School diploma requirements.  HAS students in grades 11-12 who are credit deficient and at risk of not graduating or not graduating on time are eligible to apply.  Our EXCEL students are taught by HAS teachers using the platform Accelerate Education.  

Due to our Broncho EXCEL students following a non-traditional diploma track, we celebrate their graduation in a special, uniquely separate ceremony from the Holly High School graduation ceremony.  (Broncho EXCEL students are also not eligible to attend the HHS All Night Party after the HHS graduation ceremony.)

Attendance

EXCEL students, on Mondays and Fridays, meet individually with their mentor teacher via a Google Meet.  On Wednesdays, they meet in-person with our Broncho EXCEL mentors and their fellow peers.  Individual mentor meetings are focused on individual growth, progress monitoring, and helping the student make appointments for any academic or counseling needs.  In-person lab sessions on Wednesdays focus on school announcements, social and emotional lessons, career readiness projects and real-world connections, and hands-on learning.  (Transportation for in-person labs is the responsibility of the student/family.)

Scheduling, Courses, and Grading

Students in the EXCEL program will be assigned five academic courses following their credit needs to earn a high school diploma, following the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements, each trimester.  Once the student has earned credit in all five courses, the student will be given a new five courses to continue earning credit towards their high school diploma.  All students will be assigned a Seminar course, which will be used to communicate with their mentor and access their in-person information, announcements, lessons, and resources.

All EXCEL students will follow a credit/no-credit grading scale for all courses.  A student will earn credit when all gradable activities have a score, even if that score is zero, the semester exam has been completed and submitted, and the overall course grade is a 60% or higher.  

In-Person Requirements

Broncho EXCEL students do have in-person requirements that they must attend in addition to their weekly in-person lab requirement.  These additional in-person requirements include but are not limited to Orientation, Count Days (in October and February), and any scheduled district or state testing.  All in-person requirements will be at our Sherman Campus location, 14470 N. Holly Road, in our Broncho Virtual Learning Lab, with the exception of some district and state testing requirements.  (Transportation for in-person requirements is the responsibility of the student/family.) Application Process

To apply for our EXCEL program, please check out our Application section.  Please note, applications will be reviewed by counselors, administrators, and any necessary special services team members to determine program eligibility.  Once eligibility is determined, students and families will be notified.  

Application deadlines are posted yearly on the Broncho Virtual website.  Applications are accepted each trimester for the upcoming trimester, but deadlines are strictly enforced.  Failure to apply on time will result in eligibility denied for the upcoming trimester, as new applicants are only accepted at the beginning of each trimester.
