HHS Temporary Shift to Virtual Learning Extended

Holly High School shift to virtual learning update

November 12, 2020

Dear Holly High School Families,

I would like to provide an update regarding the most recent shift to remote Virtual Learning at Holly High School. The challenges with quarantine impacting day-to-day operations at our buildings can be further complicated by a delay in testing results. Over the past two days, we have completed new contact tracing investigations from results recently received. Unfortunately, this has added additional teachers on quarantine.

Because most of our teachers on quarantine will not be returning until Wednesday, 11/18, we are forced to extend the temporary remote Virtual Learning. The new return date for In-Person students at Holly High School will be next Thursday, November 19th. The high school will continue on the same daily and weekly schedule during the remote Virtual Learning.

As I stated last week, our district has worked very hard to keep our doors open to In-Person learning for our students and families. Unfortunately, the impact of quarantine can take away our ability to continue In-Person learning as we cannot overcome issues that take place outside of the school building.

The protocols implemented in our buildings have been effective and thus far, we do not have evidence of positive cases of COVID-19 tracing back to exposure at school. Any non-compliance of protocols outside of school will continue to put In-Person learning at risk.

Other buildings in our district are also seeing a rise with quarantine issues. We will continue to do everything we can to provide the In-Person option for our families. With that said, we need to be mindful of the increasing number of positive cases happening in our county and community.

As the prevalence of active cases in our community impacts our schools, we face a significant challenge of maintaining the day-to-day operations. Please continue to give careful consideration as a family to avoid gatherings and continue to seek ways in which we can safely get through the coming months to protect everyone’s health and keep our students in school.

Any additional announcements regarding the shift to remote Virtual Learning will come from your high school principal, Mr. LoFiego and your student’s teacher.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Roper, Superintendent
