Return to Learn Update
COVID-19 "Close Contact" definition updated.
May 28, 2021
Dear Holly Area Schools Families,
We would like to share an update that we received yesterday afternoon from the Oakland County Health Department.
Effective immediately, the Oakland County Health Department (OCHD) has revised their guidance to define exposure distance for COVID-19 to be within 3 feet of a positive case for close contacts.
A “Close Contact” is now defined by OCHD as a person with exposure for 15 minutes or more at a distance within
- 3 feet in a classroom or bus setting
- 6 feet in the cafeteria; in a band or choir class; a Physical Education class or sports practice where there is significant physical activity.
In addition to the change in distance, OCHD has reduced the length of quarantine to 7 days as long as a PCR test is taken within 7 days of the exposure and comes back negative. When this occurs, the student or staff member can return on the 8th day. If a PCR Test is not taken, then a 10-day quarantine will take place.
I realize that this new guidance comes with only 8 days of school remaining. We welcome the positive impact that it will have on our summer programs to significantly reduce any potential quarantine issues.
We will continue to keep our families updated with new information as it becomes available. All of us are looking forward to more positive updates to share with our families.
Please continue to check our district website for updates regarding our Return to Learn Plan.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Sincerely,
Scott M. Roper, Superintendent
