More than 250 Bronchos learn about skilled trades careers from top-tier industry professionals

Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Open House provides inside look at in-demand skilled trades opportunities

HOLLY, Mich. — More than 250 Holly Area Schools students and their families learned about in-demand, good-paying careers in the skilled trades at last week’s Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Open House at Holly High School.

The Broncho students and their families met with more than 50 skilled trades exhibitors from across Michigan in construction, manufacturing, health science, information technology, energy, medical, transportation, logistics, advanced marketing and more.

“We were proud to bring these top-tier industry professionals under one roof for our Broncho students, families and community,” said Jennifer Fettig, the district’s director of career programming and business partnerships. “Our event literally doubled in size this year, and we look forward to building on our partnerships with skilled trades groups as we continue to find new avenues to promote skilled trades careers for our Bronchos.”

The event vendors represented labor and operating unions, trade schools, apprenticeship programs at community colleges, and private labor and services businesses. Trades schools from across Michigan and all branches of the military were also in attendance at the April 17 skilled trades fair.

“I’d like to personally thank all of our vendors, skilled trades representatives and others who helped make this year’s Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Open House such a success,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “At Holly Area Schools, we are committed to preparing all students for the jobs of today and tomorrow, including those in the skilled trades and that don’t require a college degree.”
